As I installed Windows 8 customer preview, I set a long password of 20 characters. The setup went through fine. After complete setup, I installed updates which required a restart. After the Windows restart, I was not able to login using the same ID/password. I googled it and Windows 8 does not allow to login with long password more than 16 characters. I would like to cut short the password, but the problem is, I can’t login Windows, how can I change Windows 8 password? Thanks. (Asked by Mark)
How to change forgotten or lost Windows 8 password?
I caught the above post some other day. And later I find such Windows 8 issue is not only Mark’s concern, but also for many Windows fans. So here I’m ready to write an article to share my experience on how to change forgotten or lost Windows 8 password.
To fix Mark’s Windows 8 password problem (Windows 8 password lost), my advice for him is to try to log in by entering the first 16 characters of the password at first. If this attempt fails, then try this tool: Windows Password Recovery Ultimate, which is a professional tool designed for resetting or changing any forgotten & lost Windows password (except for Windows 8 picture password.)
Now follow the below tutorial to learn how to change Windows 8 password:
Step1: Install and launch Windows Password Recovery Ultimate on your friend’s or family’s computer. (This computer should be accessible and Windows OS-based.)
Step2: Burn a password reset disk on a CD/DVD or USB flash drive with the tool.
Step3: Set the target computer boot from CD/DVD or USB.
Step4: Start recovering Windows 8 password and even create a new password-protected administrator account for the locked Windows 8 device within 1 to 2 minutes.
Small tips on Windows 8 password
Windows 8 introduces two new password types that you can use when logging in to Windows account: a four-digit PIN and a picture password. If you are using a Windows 8 PC shared by more than one user, you are highly suggested to create different user accounts with different new types of Windows 8 passwords to protect and ensure your personal experience & privacy.
But remember, if you decide to use these new password types, you still must set up a regular and traditional text password. Sometimes you’ll have to use this text password when you need administrative approval for changing system settings. And especially when you forgot your Windows 8 picture password or PIN password, you will need this text password to log in. And when all the 3 types of password are forgotten, you will still have the way out to change forgotten Windows 8 administrator password with the tool mentioned above—Windows Password Recovery Ultimate.
